Captain America 2011 Movie Review

I just saw Captain America last night at the Gateway Mall with my husband. I am not really looking forward to this movie but my husband wants to see it so I went along.

Well I think the first hour is quite boring. I don't find the Captain America actor (Chris Evans) effective enough. The movie is set in 1942 during the Second World War and Captain America became a symbol of hope for the American people. It's a typical superhero movie but there is something lacking. I think Captain America and his issues or emotions are not given much attention. The relationships of the actors in the story are not emphasized so I did not feel the strong friendship between Captain America and his soldier friend who died. And also, I certainly  did not feel the spark between Captain America and his love interest. Maybe that is the reason why I would rate this film as average. But I am amazed at the transformation of Captain America from the skinny guy to a total hunk- it looks so real. I also have high expectations since other movies from Marvel superheroes are way better.

But the best part of Captain America is the ending. At the end, Captain wakes up in an unfamiliar room. Apparently he is already in the modern world as he was asleep for 70 years.

And the part that excites me the most is the trailer of the Avengers! For those who are planning to watch Captain America: wait for the after credits. It is the best part of the movie.

Nestle Philippines Kasambahay Habambuhay Short Film: Sign Seeker

This is just so cute that I want to share. A short film about a guy who keeps on asking for signs if he will pursue his pretty office-mate. John Lloyd is really a great actor and Solenn Heusaff looked so hot here. The visuals and animation made the film unique and entertaining. I am yet to see the rest of the short films by Nestle but it is such a a nice way to celebrate their 100th anniversary.

Many people who viewed the video are curious about the soundtrack especially for this one song about signs. According to what I researched, all the songs are especially made for this film but the album if there would be any is yet to be released. The title of the song is Waiting for a Sign by Loudbox. We are yet to hear the full version but in the meantime, here are some of the lyrics:

Waiting for a Sign by Loudbox

And I'll hold my breath
just until the train stops
Then I'll count to ten
Maybe I'll see raindrops
As I'm waiting for a sign

The cat wakes me up
A minute before the alarm goes
I can tell myself
Won't need him to say so
Waiting for a sign

Lean on to me don't ever
Look back again no never
Cos I am waiting forever
This is more than a sign
I am here and you're mine

If he takes me out
And we talk til midnight
And he holds my hand
Til then I'll just sit tight
Just waiting for a sign

August 29 and 30, 2011: Non-Working Holidays!

Good news for everyone who are longing for a long weekend. As holidays are very scarce this year, I am pretty sure that many will be happy to know that there will be two holidays in August. To make it even better,  it has to be for two consecutive days and on a Monday and a Tuesday.

It is holiday on August 29 (Monday) because it is National Heroes' Day and on August 30 (Tuesday) because it is Eidul Fitr, a special day for our Muslim brothers.

It is probably time to plan what to do on those days. I hope my family can get that much needed R and R. Everyone should take advantage of the long weekend in August as there seems to be no holiday for the whole month of September and October. The next holiday will be on November 1, 2011.

Dinner at ClawDaddy

After the laser tag game with my officemates, we all ate dinner at ClawDaddy resto still at  Centris Mall. We are a large group so we occupied one long table. Our boss and some of my other officemates who are sitting near them made all the order. We just ordered our drinks and waited for the food which I find cool and convenient.

Anyhow, once the food arrives, it became clear to me that it is definitely a night for pigging out. First order arrived: there were two kinds of pizza for all of us to try. Sorry I don’t know the name but both are thin crust and yummy.

Then the buffalo wings arrived next and it tastes great too. I especially love the dip and the mojos. It is a must-try as they taste much better than the wings and mojos of other restos.

We also tried the Clawdaddy's famous seafood boil, a seafood feast of crab, rock lobster, fresh water prawns, mussels, clams, andouille sausage, corn on a cob and baby potatoes simmered in Clawdaddy's seafood broth. I almost didn’t go to this office activity, thank God I changed my mind.

I am already so full when the two kinds of spaghetti and smoked baby back ribs arrived but I still ate in gusto.

Apart from the fact that everything is delicious, I also think the service is good so this restaurant is a must-try.

How to Recover Word Documents When PC Automatically Restarts

One of the most important thing that anyone who does their work in a computer must remember is to save their work as soon as possible. Not only that, they also need to regularly save the document after 5 or 10 minutes of working.

This is because there is always this danger of losing a document or files in a snap after an unexpected power failure or worse an automatic shutdown. I think anybody would understand how painful and frustrating it can be to lose hours worth of work in a snap. It would feel like you will do anything just to turn back the time and save that precious document.

Fortunately for MS Word users, there is this ever reliable Autorecovery feature which stores unsaved document in case of a power failure or any other form of sudden shutdown.

But then there is a hidden enemy – sometimes there is an automatic PC update which requires pc restart. The scary part about this update is that it automatically restarts the system when no action to postpone it is made. So when you leave your pc open for a while, the pc will restart by itself and you might lose any unsaved documents.

It happened to me a couple of times, and each time I thought I have lost the documents forever. The last time it happened, I refused to believe that it is really lost and decided to do some research partly because it was an important and long document. I hoped for a miracle and guess what- it worked! I learned that it is indeed possible to recover word docs when pc automatically restarts.

As the saying goes, prevention is the best cure. So MS Word users may want to do the following so they will have great chance of retrieving documents in case of an unexpected shutdown:

For those using MSWord 2003:
  1. Go to Tools
  2. Click Options
  3. Click Save
  4. Then check the following boxes:
    • Always create a backup copy
    • Save the documents after (you can set the desired minutes)

You can also do this:
  1. Go to Tools
  2. Click Options
  3. Click File locations
  4. Then look for the autorecover files and try to find the missing documents in the link you will see

Then you need to read the following:

Laser Tag Experience at Centris Walk

My boss planned a small interactive activity for the company last July 1. We wanted to watch a movie but my boss thinks it doesn’t have a team-building quality so he suggested a laser tag game. I have no idea what laser tag is and so are most of my office-mates but they explained that is a like a paintball game.

So we all trooped down to Centris Walk in Quezon Avenue one Friday night. It was my first time at Centris Mall and I love this place. I hope I can bring my family here some time.

We went straight to the laser tag area where we inquired about the rates and so. One game that requires a minimum of 12 persons costs Php170. After paying, we were led to an area where we watched a more or less 5-minute presentation about the rules of the game.  There are so many rules like no sitting, no running, etc, which one is likely to forget while playing.

After that, we went to another room where we put on the laser tag guns which are quite heavy. There is a locker area where one can leave belongings but it is not safe as the lockers have no lock at all.

Then we entered this dark area where we will play the game. The area is not that spacious and the game started seconds after we entered. It was quite fun, like playing hide and seek sort of game but it is not for me. Our game was girls vs boys and so we tag each other using the laser guns like kids.

Each time I commit a violation like not holding my gun properly or even sitting down, my laser gun becomes inactive. And each time someone gets to tag me (which is a lot), their code name appears in my laser gun screen. Yup, each laser gun has an assigned code name which you must remember so you will know your scores later on.

For me it is an improved and high tech version of the paintball game. It is indoor so it removes all the inconveniences of the paintball game which includes playing in an open field and being hit by a ball of paint which may leave you dirty.

Well I think it is good teambuilding activity, but I swear next time my company invites me to this kind of game again, I am not going. Don’t get me wrong; it is worth a try but it is not for me who had always loved boring stuff.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Movie

One thing made me a bit sad today. That is the fact that I will not be able to watch  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. This has been a very busy week for my whole family so my husband and I don't have time to watch a movie. I hope we can watch it this weekend or if not, we will try to watch it next week. I believe we will avoid crowds and long lines that way.
Anyway I took a fun quiz at FemaleNetwork.com to determine at which Hogwarts house do my personality fit in. According to the result, I belong to the Ravenclaw house!

You belong in RAVENCLAW! You're intelligent and capable, just like the students in Ravenclaw. You've got a good head on your shoulders, and you use it well, even if sometimes others don't see things the way you do. You love spending time alone, just reflecting or reading a good book. You enjoy learning a lot, and your mind is always full of thoughts and ideas. When you speak, people listen because they know you'll have something interesting to say. While some might see you as just book-smart, you're actually pretty practical and good at thinking out of the box, so you have a way of coming up with less obvious but often more effective solutions to any problem. You love useful gadgets, especially things that serve multiple purposes, and you're very logical when it comes to helping people resolve issues--whether at work or in their personal lives.
