Eager to Participate in Earth Hour 2011

The task of doing something to help save our dear planet need not be so gigantic or difficult. It is as simple as turning off the lights for one hour one day in a year. I am glad there is an annual event called Earth Hour that lets ordinary people like me do something for the environment. My family was able to participate in Earth Hour last year and would be so glad to do it again this 2011. That time, our house seems to be only one that is aware about that event. Hope more people would participate in our area this time. Show your love for Mother Earth and help spread the word.

Switch off your light for one hour this Saturday.

Earth Hour 2011
March 26, 2011, Saturday
8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

A Bit Background About Earth Hour

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off for one hour to take a stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries/territories participating. Global landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, CN Tower in Toronto, Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome's Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

Earth Hour is organized by WWF. With almost 5 million supporters and a global network in over 100 countries/territories, it's one of the world's largest and most respected independent conservation organizations. WWF's mission is to stop the degradation of the Earth's natural environment and build a future where people live in harmony with nature.

Not Feeling Well

I really don't want to spread negativism but can't say Thank God it's Friday today. I am feeling so sad right now. My spirits are down and i feel like crying. Why? Well my boss got upset because of an unfinished task. I received really embarrassing and hurtful comments because he somewhat disliked the ad copy I wrote for a client. He got really mad upon learning that I was able to do only half of the task. Most of my officemates heard the rants so its major bembang moment.

My boss  talked to me and got angry at 2pm and demanded that i finish the work at 3pm.
As I am writing this, the storm is over. After a while , my boss who is really kind and consdierate said sorry naman. After all, he never mentioned that he needs it urgently and I have so many other tasks that I thought was the priority. But I still feel bad,so bad that it feels like I can never recover from the embarrassment.

But of course, it's not true. If there's one thing I learn, it is that everything passes. As the saying goes- this too shall pass. I just hope nothing of that sort happen to me or to anybody again. This is one of those times when i feel like quitting work. But I know it is a very immature act. Maybe i am just so worried and tired these days that it is affecting my work. I am also kinda sick, down with the colds and flu that never seem to go away.

One happy thought- I am again reminded that I have nice and sympathetic co-workers who feels bad when something like this happens to any of us and who are always willing to offer help and kind words of encouragement.

Hope I can rest well over the weekend.

How to Open Newer Versions of Word, Excel, & PowerPoint Files

Of all Microsoft Office programs, i am most used to MS Word. It is part of my  daily work but unfortunately, i am still not familiar with all its features such as how to edit an image using Word and even seemingly simple task such as how to create Table of Contents on it.

Anyway, there are times when I would encounter a problem with MS word and would be clueless on how to fix it. One of the problems with MS Word that i find so annoying are email attachments or word documents that i can't view.

It usually happens when the attached word document is done in a higher Word version. I used to think i really cannot view that Word document unless I install the newer word version which is quite a hassle because it delays work. So i am glad to find out that there are easy ways pala to view these documents.

There are websites that convert file formats for you in quick, easy steps. It lets you view and share documents online
. You can visit this link: http://viewer.zoho.com/home.do

You can also download and install MS Office file format converter on your PC so you can view documents even when offline. Apparently by installing the Compatibility Pack in addition to Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able to open, edit, and save files using the file formats in newer versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint . The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats. For more information about the Compatibility Pack, see 924074.

A Special Prayer for Times of Disaster - To the Tsunami Victims in Japan

Dear Lord of mercy, hear our prayer,

You are strength to those who suffer and comfort to those who grieve. Let their prayers be raised to your loving grace.

To all those in distress, grant them mercy, grant them relief, grant them refreshment, give them hope in this hour of tragedy.
As they begin to rebuild, we entrust their loved ones to your care.

Surround those who have been shaken by disaster with a sense of your present love,
And hold them in faith.

Though they are lost in grief, may they find you and be comforted;

Through Jesus Christ who was dead, but lives and rules this world with you, hear our prayer.

Amen.

Updates on Paypal Withdrawal Through Credit Card

I once made a post about withdrawing paypal money through Citibank card and I said that it is pretty fast and convenient. Well I am taking back my words now. I made the post and the conclusion because the paypal transaction was indeed fast, meaning paypal transferred my money to my credit card account within days and the Citibank officer told me that the overpayment cheque I requested will be delivered to my billing address after a week.

Well, that is where the problem begins. Once the credit card gets hold of your paypal money, withdrawing becomes a pain. Most of the problem stems from the lousy customer service. Many agents are clueless about paypal and some would say that they did something for your account but then would discover later that they did not.

The first Citibank officer I talked to said that he had transferred my request for an overpayment cheque and asked me to wait for seven days until it is delivered. But alas after two weeks of waiting, I made a follow up and the new Citibank officer said that my request for an overpayment cheque was not processed at all. So she requested it again for me and asked me to wait again. Well guess what- another two weeks passed and still no cheque came. I made another call and the agent now is just requesting me to use my Citibank card so my paypal money will then be treated as payment.

I am frustrated and a bit angry so I did just that. I gave up on the overpayment cheque and just use my card to shop for things I want. So to sum it all up, withdrawing paypal money through Citibank card is definitely not an option for me right now. It is also tiring that I have to explain to each Citibank officer I talked to what paypal is and where did that money came from.

Email Posting is Possible in Blogger

I know that I have been neglecting this blog for quite some time and there are many reasons why. Aside from the fact that I have been so busy with so many other things, another thing that kept me from updating my blog is the problem I encountered with blogger.

I was unable to post in blogger lately because whenever I click the create new post link, I would be directed to the posting page but gets an error message about a javascript void error. For some reason, I can’t type a thing in the body section. All I get is a loading image that keeps on rotating, it’s so frustrating.

I thought it was a javacscript error so I updated my java and made sure that the java options in my pc is turned on. I did all that but I still can’t post. By the way that error is only present in my desktop at the office. In any other pc, my blogger is fine.

I researched this problem in google so I know that I am not the only one that had experienced this. Well, nothing of the suggested solutions I tried work. So I gave up ad just look for other ways to post in my blog using that particular desktop.

It’s a good thing that blogger now allows blog posting through email or mobile. What I tried is the email posting. I can say that it is indeed convenient because I just setup a secret password for the email address I am going to use for blogging .

Then using that email address, I post the content in my compose section. The subject of my email is the post title. Upon pressing send- my post is immediately published on my blog. I find it very helpful but there are downsides too. For one there would be times when my blog posts would be all caps in the live post. I also cannot add labels on my post through email nor schedule a post. Anyway I am still grateful that they offer this option, I just hope it would improve in time. Here’s what blogger says about this helpful feature;

Blogger has many additional ways for you to post to your blog. You can post to your blog from your mobile phone or through a secret Mail-to-Blogger email address. Or use the Blogger Post Gadget to edit and publish posts directly from your custom iGoogle homepage. With these options, it's easy to post to your blog whenever you want, from wherever you may be.

Cool Advice to Mommies

This post brought to you by Boudreaux's Butt Paste. All opinions are 100% mine. Being a mommy involves a lot of decision making, from choosing the milk brand to buy to the kinds of baby bottles to use. And as mundane and unimportant as it may seem, choosing the right diaper brand is crucial for every mom.

I remember a time when my daughter Sophie was full of diaper rash because the brand that I am using failed to keep my baby’s skin fresh and dry. It was distressing for me to see the ugly rash that is red and swollen and seeing how uncomfortable my baby is. I accept the blame as I did not recognize right away that I need to change the brand of diaper I am using.

My pediatrician then reprimanded me for not treating the diaper rash as soon as possible. As a prescription, he advised me to change the baby’s diaper as soon as it is full and to apply a diaper rash cream call Boudreaux's Butt Paste every diaper change.

I was so thankful then that diaper rash cream exists. Because as awful as the rash looks like, the effect of that cream is fast. Only a few applications, the diaper rash is gone and my baby’s skin is clean and rash-free.
